The BMW 3.0 CSL is an iconic car born from BMW’s desire to win the European Touring Car Championship in the 70’s. So of course when fans heard that BMW where designing a New 3.0 CSL named “Hommage Concept” expectations where high but does the new 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept live up the iconic status of the original CSL?
BMW calls it “a nod to the engineering achievement exemplified by the BMW 3.0 CSL in its lightweight design and performance.” And it certain does achieve BMW claim of lightweight design with generous use of high-tech composites. The use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) which offers the optimum weight-to-strength ratio, is incorporated into every aspect of the design.
However the styling has had mix reviews, while the original 3.0 CSL was nickname ‘Batmobile’ due to it’s outrageous aero, the 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept harsh angles and clutter front end seems more mess than race inspire aero. However it is all business at the back end, with an overly large spoiler and huge fenders it’s definitely has that race car feel.
The interiors pays hommage to the original 3.0 CSL with wood trim dash insert and racing inspire 5 point harness, fix back bucket seats and roll bars in the rear.
For now the 3.0 CSL Hommage will remain a concept.
